"Hail insurance " A prairie storm powers across Alberta over a canola field while stormchasing near Lethbridge.
I take 3 weeks of vacation in the summer during the Canola bloom, which just happens to coincide with storm chasing season in Canada.

That isn't necessarily just a coincidence. When Canola is blooming it gives off a lot of moisture through evapotranspiration (a process i'm sure weall remember from grade 6 science class). The moisture the canola provides is used as fuel for summer thunderstorms.

I really like Canola, it is fun to photograph. Put a prairie storm over that Canola, and I like it even more!!

Canola was developed in Canada in the 1970's, bred from rapeseed that would be able to thrive on the Canadian prairies.
